Freeport falls in Homecoming tilt

Written by Karver Jordan, Class of 2024

FREEPORT—The Freeport Falcons fell to the Poland Knights on homecoming weekend. Poland finished the game with 22 points and the Falcons only recorded two points all game (22-2). The Falcons were without junior quarterback Teddy Peters and senior running back Cooper Delois. Multiple players had to step up in this game both offensively and defensively. Here are a few things that stood out during the game.

Freeport Falcons stand strong defensively

Coach Walrath coached the defense and did all they could. The Falcons (2-2) defense recorded three turnovers vs. the Knights. Freeport’s defensive line and linebackers did well vs. Poland’s rushing attack. Multiple Falcons had three or more tackles. Here are a few names, Daunte Mitchell (junior), Jacob Benjamin (junior), Drew O’Hara (junior), Mattie Coffin (senior), and Noah Michaud (senior). The Falcons got their only points from a blocked punt. Coffin shot the gap and jumped in front of Poland’s punter and the ball rolled out of bounds for the Freeport safety.

Falcons struggle offensively

The Freeport Falcons were without Peters, so Alex Berry (junior) and Ben Bolduc (junior) had to step up in this game. Both of the quarterbacks did their best vs. Poland’s defense. Both have had limited reps at the quarterback position before the Week Four matchup against the Knights (5-0). Evan Mahaney, the senior wide receiver/running back, recorded a good amount of solid runs and receptions. The Falcons were injured at nearly every skilled position, and the players who played stepped up nicely.

Freeport played on the road this week against the Oak Hill Raiders. A story will be appearing soon on The Falcon Outlet website.
