Falcons fall to Raiders, 24-16

Written by Karver Jordan, Class of 2024

SABATTUS—The Falcons were on the road to face off against the Oak Hill Raiders this past Saturday. There were many ups and downs throughout the game. The banged-up Falcons held their own vs. the Raiders but couldn’t quite get the job done, falling 24-16. Here are a few things that stood out despite the loss.

The Falcons' offense lit up the Oak Hill secondary in the first half

Freeport’s Head Coach Paul St. Pierre was calling all the right plays vs. this Oak Hill secondary. Junior quarterback Teddy Peters was back from injury and it truly made a difference in the offensive performance. Peters had one touchdown pass that went to junior classmate David Ulrickson. These two were lighting it up. The wide receiver was getting open nearly every passing play. Ulrickson gained most of his yards off of Yards-After-Catch (YAC). Peters did a great job finding the shifty wide receiver in space.

Junior two-way starter Jacob Benjamin got work at running back this week. The former offensive guard stepped up in this game and did a phenomenal job filling in. Benjamin averaged 2.4 yards per carry.

Junior running back Ben Bolduc gained some good yardage on the ground as well, the power back recorded 4 yards per carry on average.

Coach Willett's special teams continue to shine

Senior kicker Rosie Panenka and freshman Domenic Randall both did a phenomenal job on special teams. Panenka, who is a star soccer player for Freeport, continues to be consistent at kicking extra points for the Falcons, kicking near-perfect in this game vs. the Raiders. Randall set up the defense well with the good punts. Randall has been phenomenal all season for the Falcons on special teams.

Falcons’ defense continues to play well

The Freeport Falcons defense played a good game overall—a few mistakes here and there but other than that, they performed decently. A handful of players recorded two or more tackles: Mattie Coffin (senior), Daunte Mitchell (junior), Ulrickson, Dietrich Schulz (sophomore), and Andrew Thomas (freshman) all played well on defense and stepped up. Coffin, the physical linebacker, recorded two sacks in the first half of the game; he made sure the quarterback paid the price for holding onto the ball. Multiple players stepped up vs. Oak Hill and did a good job filling in. This Freeport team looks to bounce back after the tough loss vs. the Raiders.

This Freeport Falcons (2-3) will be facing off against the Oceanside Mariners Friday Night at 6 p.m. at home.
