FREEPORT—Freeport came off a superb victory vs. Winthrop the previous week and kept that momentum going into their matchup against the Lisbon Greyhounds last Saturday. Lisbon’s defense couldn’t stop the Falcons’ physical and powerful rushing attack. The Falcons on the other hand played a phenomenal game on defense with multiple game-changing stops. Here are a few things that stood out in the 28-16 victory over the Greyhounds.

Falcons’ defense came up big in stopping Lisbon’s rushing attack

The Falcons’ defense stepped up big in the Week Two matchup. Senior Captain Mattie Coffin led Freeport with 14 tackles and had a huge sack late in the game. Coffin was everywhere for Coach Walrath’s defense. Senior Cooper Delois had a huge turnover in the game. The hard-hitting linebacker made sure the Lisbon running back felt the hit. Connor Brown subbed into the game and instantly put pressure on the Greyhounds’ QB. Brown recorded a sack that changed the momentum of the game.

Multiple players stepped up in this game for Freeport. Teddy Peters (junior), Drew O’Hara (junior), Connor Slocum (senior), Brown (Junior), and Noah Michaud (senior) all made big plays vs. the Greyhounds.

“I’d say that it felt pretty good, apart from going over plays. I think the main thing is that everyone man up for the inside run.” Coffin said after the teams' outstanding defensive performance.

Michaud records a HUGE kick return touchdown

Senior captain Adam Michaud talked about how the touchdown changed the momentum for the team.

“It seemed like after that everybody realized Lisbon was no match for us [Freeport,] and we started playing up to our potential,” he said.

Falcons' offense finishes strong

Peters was looking forward to having another great week through the air and in the rushing attack after the junior QB recently won Class D Player of the Week. Peters started out slow in the first quarter of the game but later bounced back with four straight completions—three of the targets went to senior running back Delois. Peters found Senior Captain Connor Slocum for a touchdown to close the half. In the second half of play, the junior QB and Michaud gashed the Greyhounds’ defense with the Falcons’ rushing attack. Michaud had a good touchdown run in the second half, his second of the game. The senior captain had an outstanding game on special teams and on offense.

The five up front did a phenomenal job in the pass protection and in the rushing attack. The offensive line was going up against a tough Lisbon front seven. Jacob Sawyer (OT), Brown (OG), Teddy Emery (C), Caleb Antl (OG), and Lincoln Petrillo (OT) all played a big role in this Falcons’ Week Two win.

Freeport will be on the road to face off against John Bapst in a Week Three Class D battle. Gametime will be at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
